It was close, but not enough.
A bill sponsored by state representative Jamie Flick (HB 378) to replace Pennsylvania’s existing family law with a rebuttable presumption of equal shared parenting and 50/50 lost by a 103-99 vote. The amendment also requires, amongst other significant revisions, a judge to provide a written explanation for the decision if 50-50 custody is rejected.
The good news is there was bi-partisan support for the amendment, so reform activists ARE making progress with both parties.
Of course the bad news is there are still 103 PA lawmakers who do not recognize the abusive nature of family court and the harm it causes to parents and children, and this is exactly why we created the Light, Love, And Justice political accountability campaign.
If you live in a state absent equal shared parenting law, take 5-10 minutes to print this article, attach a personal note, and follow the instructions at the end of the article.
This is important, so no excuses. If you believe in equal shared parenting, then get your lawmakers this information so we can hold them accountable and compel change.
